The all-new Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-50RS is an affordable mid-range notebook. Despite its low price, this versatile machine is equipped with all the features needed for everyday use. Moreover, I personally find the design of this model attractive. He doesn’t want to be something he’s not, and I like that Acer is honest about its laptops. However, there are one or two disadvantages that you should consider before deciding whether to go for it or not.
Overview
As already mentioned, the Acer Aspire 5 A515 is a mid-range budget notebook. This means that the performance will meet your daily computing needs. Thanks to the hardware configuration, you won’t encounter any major bottlenecks. My only long-term concern is storage capacity.
Power
The Acer is therefore equipped with a fantastic Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor that runs at up to 4.2 GHz, has a cache of 8 megabytes, and has a typical heat dissipation of only 15 W. Based on the real-world tests and scenarios in which I tested this processor, it’s not far off in terms of performance from the Intel i7-1165G7 installed in the much more expensive ASUS Zenbook Flip 13, which I recently reviewed.
The memory capacity of the system is 8 gigabytes of DDR4 SDRAM. This amount allows you to see how the Acer performs over a longer period of time. The programs will inevitably absorb more and more resources, and in a few years they may begin to feel listless. However, the Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-50RS is a user-friendly device with expandable memory. The total allowed capacity is 20 gigabytes, but you will probably only need 16 (2 x 8 GB RAM) at any given time.

The memory capacity is also quite limited, but can be expanded by the user at short notice. Acer offers a 256 gigabyte NVMe SSD that gives you the speed you need for your daily tasks. There’s an additional slot for a 2.5-inch SSD, should you ever need more capacity. Updating memory and storage capacity is a simple task. You can watch this amazingly detailed video on how to do it yourself.
Screen and graphic design
The Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-50RS is equipped with a 15.6-inch FHD IPS LED. Nothing to brag about, but I’ve seen laptops at similar prices with worse displays. The viewing angles are good thanks to the in-plane switching technology, and the color reproduction is decent. Don’t expect too much when it comes to retouching photos, illustrations, or other tasks that require accurate and vibrant colors.
The 130-degree swivel capability allows the screen to be rotated farther back than other models, but not nearly as far as 2-in-1 laptops. Even though it’s not the thinnest, the bezel is surprisingly comfortable and discreet.
On the graphics front, Acer features a built-in Intel Iris Xe unit that allows the user to make multiple conference calls, play popular multiplayer games or other pointless games, and perform any daily task that the average user would expect from this notebook.
Interface and network
There are a wide range of interface options, as you would expect with this type of laptop. Its versatility is easily seen in its I/O options. They have managed to accommodate a large number of ports for all your peripherals:
- 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type C port
- 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A ports
- 1 x USB 2.0 port
- HDMI
- Combined audio connection
The network options are also suitable for most users. It doesn’t matter if you’re at your desk or on the couch. Acer offers both wired and wireless options, perfect for all your home office needs. It’s also equipped with the latest Wi-Fi technology, which means you can receive all your conference calls wherever you have a fast router. Here they are:
- Intel Wireless Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) with 2×2 MU-MIMO technology
- Gigabit Ethernet
- Bluetooth 5.0
Portability and battery life
I have already mentioned some of the weaknesses of this notebook. Well, here they are. First, it’s not a very portable cell phone. The Acer tips the scales at 4.19 pounds. No matter how you look at it, it’s a heavy machine. Of course, you have a larger screen than most ultraportables. However, if portability is one of your key features, this laptop is not up to the task.

Moreover, the battery life is far from ideal, especially since it doesn’t have a dedicated graphics card. The battery lasts up to 8.5 hours before you need to recharge it, but you can expect even less when the job is done.
Taking into account these two details, which are not secondary, I would say that the Acer Aspire 5 A515 is primarily a laptop designed to replace a desktop or home office computer. If you plan to commute or even travel with it, I recommend looking for a lighter unit.
Who is it for?
It’s safe to say it’s not a laptop for everyone. It has great advantages, some disadvantages, but I think there is a specific audience for this device. Despite its versatile features and good value for money, its portability and battery life are not very long. We will find the laptop that best fits your home or office.
It’s useful for making video calls, editing personal photos you’ve taken, working on an office project, or streaming high-quality video content over the Internet. Given its technical features and low price, I think this is an excellent, no-frills and versatile office replacement for home or office use. In other words, it’s a reasonable laptop for your everyday computing needs.

Overall, the Acer Aspire 5 A515-56-50RS is an excellent mid-range notebook. When evaluating, don’t forget to consider the price. Especially when you consider that in terms of performance it has much more to offer than expected. If you’re looking for a touchscreen convertible laptop at a similar price, you can get the A515-56T-574E (also available on Amazon) for the difference of $80. It also has more capacity than the model I tested today.
