Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is building a network of tens of thousands of sensors called “Sidewalk”, as it looks to provide users with an easy-to-use, personal, connected and, of course, location-based shopping experience. This is how it works: You go to one of Amazon’s partner stores, like Macy’s or Target, and start shopping.

Amazon has been busy building out its real estate network in cities across the world and with the promise of free delivery for Prime members, it’s no surprise that there is a lot of buzz around Amazon’s newest initiative. What many people don’t realize, however, is that Amazon is working on more than just operating a network of delivery trucks. The company is also building out its own network of high-speed wireless communication devices to enable the delivery of packages, no matter where they are.

As an Amazon vendor, you don’t have a lot of access to user data. While Amazon does offer Seller Ratings, if you’re looking to get a sense of how your products are performing, you’ll need to use a third-party service.

The eighth. A major upgrade for Amazon’s US network is coming in June 2021. A new joint network concept called Sidewalk will become part of a national network. Here’s everything you need to know about Amazon Sidewalk Network

What is the Amazon sidewalk network?

Amazon has already announced it for 2019. Since then, the Amazon team has been testing and improving the feature to serve customers in every way possible. This innovative project is finally taking hold in the United States. This project creates a shared network of supported devices, connected to your home network or your neighbors’ network, depending on what is within reach.  It creates a Sidewalk bridge by connecting an Amazon Echo speaker, doorbell, or any other Amazon product that supports Sidewalk to a mesh network.

Those that establish a wireless network are designed to help users locate their valuables, pets, appliances, etc., even when the user is out of range of their home network.

It works like Apple’s Find My Network, but with a much wider reach.

How does Sidewalk work?

Amazon has published a white paper on Sidewalk. They mention that they use some of the home network bandwidth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to transmit data. Sidewalk thus extends the reach of Amazon’s low-bandwidth smart devices and ensures that the device stays connected even when it is out of range of the home network.

What are the benefits of Sidewalk?

  • This allows Amazon’s smart product to be online even when it is out of range of the home network.
  • Since Amazon products are always connected and online, it is useful for users to use Amazon products outside the home network.
  • As an amazon z product. For example, if it’s installed in your garage, you can control it from your mobile phone without expanding your home network.
  • If the key finder is attached to your pet and your pet is missing, the gateway will still help you find the pet.

Does an Amazon user have to pay for this feature?

No! But you’ll use it at the expense of sharing part of your home network with any product on your home network that is compatible with Amazon Sidewalk.

Yes, you read it correctly, this network will be an open network without any password protection.

Do you have to take care of the sidewalk?

This is a great innovation from Amazon. But every innovation has its price when it comes to security and data protection.

Amazon describes in its white paper that Sidewalk is protected by three layers of encryption. But that’s true until someone breaks into that network and starts hijacking personal information, which is happening more and more these days.

Amazon notes that neither user will know details about the other user or the connected sidewalk. All information transmitted over the pavement is encrypted.

Overall, this is a convenient feature to control all your smart devices from your phone. But if you don’t want to risk your personal information, you’ll think twice before using this feature.

Can this function be cancelled?

By default, all users using an Amazon Sidewalk support device are part of the Sidewalk network. It is currently used in the United States, but will soon be expanded to other countries.

But Amazon has provided the option to disable this feature if the user does not want to be a part of Sidewalk.
