Do you feel overwhelmed when trying to implement search engine optimization (SEO) for your WordPress website?
If you’re not an SEO expert, it can be hard to know what to do to make your website rank higher in Google. You have on-page SEO, off-page SEO, technical SEO, keyword research ….. There are a lot of things to work out.
The SEO Checklist is an information product created for this purpose. It provides a step-by-step guide and checklist that covers all the important actions you need to take to rank your website in Google and increase your organic traffic.
Here at WPLift, we’re used to reviewing WordPress plugins and themes, so this is a bit of a novelty for us. However, SEO is important for any website, so this knowledge is useful for all types of WordPress users, whether you’re building your personal portfolio site, running a blog, promoting your business, or whatever.
In our review of the SEO Checklist, we explain what this package entails, the types of users who will benefit most from it, and some of our general thoughts on its usefulness.
Who is the referencing checklist for?
For starters, let’s talk about the kinds of people who would benefit most from an SEO checklist.
The obvious answer is: SEO Newbies. If you have no idea what to do to get your WordPress site to rank in Google, this product is really helpful to get you started.
It’s not that you can’t Google all this information, it just takes a lot more time. With the SEO checklist, everything is already gathered in one place, with links and guides to know exactly what you need to know.
This is a great way to start from scratch and implement all the important elements for ranking your website.
It’s also a very useful feature: not only does it tell you what to do, but it also shows you how to do it, which is very handy if you’re new to this.
This also applies to agencies and WordPress website builders who want to standardize their processes and/or train their team members.
If you already know a lot about SEO, you won’t necessarily learn anything new. But you will:
- A detailed checklist to make sure you don’t forget anything when working on a client’s website.
- Detailed instructions that you can use to train other members of your team who may not be as skilled as you.
I think that’s valuable too.
What is in the referencing checklist?
The SEO checklist consists of various elements:
- A 102 point SEO checklist – in the form of a Google list, a web app and an eBook. It’s sacrificial meat.
- More than 50 detailed instructions in the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) library.
- A 12-page guide to creating content and a Trello board to plan the year’s content.
- A 50-point content distribution checklist for promoting the content you create.
Let’s take a look at these…
The most important part of the product is the SEO checklist itself, which is available in both Google Sheet and web application formats and contains over 102 checklist items.
The checklist items are divided into nine different categories:
- Fund components
- User experience
- technical list
- The references on the page
- Off-site references
- Local search engine optimization
- Bonus – non-SEO – how to create a WordPress site.
Each step is divided into nine columns:
- In addition,
If you are not sure what an item means, you can hover over the notes column to get more detailed information:
For the Google list, you can of course make a copy to view the items and keep track of your progress. You can also add your own checklist items to further customize the checklist.
If you are using the web version of the application, there is a nice feature that allows you to assign specific checklist items to different users on your team.
What I like most about the SEO checklist is that each step is doable. I think this turns a simple checklist into a really useful tool for beginners. The checklist consists of several elements, most of which are shown in the columns on the right:
- Resources – This column indicates where you can implement this checklist item. For example, to add a sitemap, you need to use Google Search Console.
- SOPs are detailed step-by-step instructions that come directly from SEOBUDDY. Not all items contain a POS, but you will receive over 50 different POS. SOPs are very detailed, so I’m devoting a whole section to them.
- Additionally, there is a link to the best video and/or blog post to learn about this topic (from SEOBUDDY and/or third party sources). Instead of searching for useful content on Google, you can go directly to a very well designed guide. For example, the Search Target element links to this detailed guide from Backlinko.
Basically, if you say: How on earth am I supposed to do that? to any of the items on the checklist, these sections will give you the knowledge you need.
SOPs (detailed instructions)
SOPs are again detailed instructions for more than 50 checklist items, indicating the step-by-step implementation of the checklist item. Not only are they detailed, they are also beautifully designed and include helpful summaries.
For example, take a look at the default workflow for setting up Google Analytics.
A basic overview of what you will be doing and why is given at the beginning:
You will then receive detailed step-by-step instructions and numerous user interface screenshots to get you started:
As a writer of many tutorials, I can attest that these are super detailed and must have taken a lot of time to develop.
You can use them to expand your own knowledge. Or, if you are trying to build a team, you can also use them to teach your team members how to perform certain actions.
SEO Checklist eBook
The 62-page SEO Checklist eBook contains all the information similar to the checklist, but with a little explanation of each point. In fact, it’s a kind of accompanying checklist that goes into a little more detail on each point in a few paragraphs.
It is not enough to learn every part of the material (you will use SOPs or extras for that). But it will help you clarify the meaning of each element.
Creating E-book and vibrating board content
The 12-page content creation eBook gives you a quick guide to creating content for an entire year to fill the different parts of your funnel.
Specifically, you will learn how to use Ahrefs to generate a range of content ideas for your website and structure them in a way that makes sense. You’ll get concrete information, and you’ll even know which Ahrefs tools to use and what to put in them:
You’ll also have a Trello board to help you customize your strategy.
The disadvantage of this part is that it is based on arefsa, which is a bit expensive. There are some useful general tips, but some cannot be applied if you do not have Ahrefs (or a similar tool).
Content distribution checklist
Finally, in addition to the SEO checklist, you get a 50-point content distribution checklist to help you understand what you need to do to promote each piece of content you publish.
It will include email, social media, link building, etc.
This is a very important checklist, because content distribution is essential if you want your content to rank for certain keywords. It doesn’t matter what people tell you: Content is king. It is not enough to publish good quality content if you want to draw attention to it.

Final thoughts on theSEO checklist
Ever since I heard Atul Gawande’s interview, I’ve been a fan of checklists.
Checklists are useful for everyone, whether you are a beginner or an experienced user. As Atul’s research has shown, even experienced surgeons can achieve better outcomes for their patients by using the checklist.
With that in mind, I think the SEO checklist is useful not only for beginners, but also for agencies or WordPress designers who want to avoid unintentional SEO mistakes.
If you are a beginner, the SEO checklist will help you learn and understand what you need to do to get your website ranked in Google. You will expand your theoretical knowledge and receive practical instructions and manuals to perform your tasks independently.
And if you’re an agency or developer, the SEO checklist can help you avoid making silly mistakes with your clients (like an experienced surgeon accidentally sewing gauze onto his patient!) You may or may not learn something new if you’re already an expert, but you’ll have a well-designed tool and detailed documentation to train new team members as needed.
