Avast’s Secure Browser might be a new name to you, but the company has been making security software for computers for over 20 years. More recently, it has been diversifying into Android and has released a series of security apps for mobile devices. The latest is a mobile browser, called Secure Browser, which offers a whole host of privacy and security features. But how does it stack up against the existing Android browser Chrome?

Much has been said about the Google Chrome vs Avast Secure Browser debate. Many people say that Avast is the best browser out there because it offers users the ability to be in control of their personal data, a built-in ad blocker, and unlike Chrome, which is owned by Google, Avast is not in the business of collecting users’ data.

With so many browsers on the market, it’s hard to decide which one you should use. Google Chrome is probably the most popular browser in the world, but as an alternative to it, you can also use Avast Secure Browser. This article will compare these two browser and let you know which one is better.

There is a search bar on the home page, as well as shortcuts to the site. You can easily add a shortcut to a website in the Home tab if needed. There are a few basic configuration options that allow you to switch to dark mode directly from the main tab. The browser also has several toolbar icons that you can use to block ads or enable other browser features. Overall, the interface is simple and clean and doesn’t differ much from Chrome. Google Chrome : Minimalism where possible Google Chrome is known for its simple but very effective user interface. The main tab contains a search bar and a list of links to websites. Of course, you can add new shortcuts or rearrange your shortcuts as you see fit. You can customize the interface, display the most visited websites instead of shortcuts, and hide the whole area if you want. Chrome also supports different backgrounds, and you can even add your own from your computer. As for color themes, there are several available, but you can also choose your own color theme.

Characteristics

Avast Secure Browser : Chrome based, security optimized Although Avast Secure Browser is similar to Chrome in terms of features, it also focuses on user security and privacy. The first feature you will notice when you launch your browser is the built-in ad blocker. By blocking ads, your pages load faster and you can surf the web without being distracted from your work. You can activate the ad blocker from the toolbar with a few clicks. If you enable this, you can easily see how many ads have been blocked on a particular page. You can disable Adblock on a specific website or on all websites as needed, and for more control over ads you can access the advanced settings with one click. The Adblock feature is based on uBlock, and we must admit that it is very effective. Three presets are available: Essential, Balanced, and Strict, and you can use them all. Each preset blocks different types of ads. Although the Strict setting provides the best protection, it may prevent some websites from loading properly, which you should be aware of if you use this setting. You can also add pages to the exclusion list if you want to see ads on a page or if a page has display issues after using Adblock. It also has anti-fingerprint, anti-phishing and anti-tracking features, so you can be sure that websites won’t track you or try to steal your login details. We should also mention that the browser has extension protection, which blocks all malicious extensions you try to install. Finally, a webcam security feature prevents websites from accessing your webcam. Avast Secure Browser also has a hack checker that scans your email to see if the accounts you signed up for with that email have been compromised. All these features are accessible from the Security and Privacy Center, and you can access them at any time with one click on the toolbar. Some features like antivirus, banking mode and VPN are also available, but you need to download additional software from Avast to use them. Overall, Avast Secure Browser offers interesting features and we are pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of the ad blocker. As for the other security features, they are a great addition and will undoubtedly improve your online security.

Google Chrome : The internet browsing giant Google Chrome has a universal address bar that comes from Google and can give you information at a glance. For example, you can check the weather in your city, perform simple calculations or convert currencies right in the address bar. It’s a small feature, but it may be useful to some. Chrome attaches great importance to synchronization. Once you sign up for a Google account, you can access your bookmarks, passwords, and browsing history on all your other devices. Tab grouping is another very useful feature for multitasking, as it allows you to group and collapse tabs to better organize open tabs. To help you navigate your tabs, Chrome has a tab locator that lets you find any open tab by simply typing its name into the search box. Chrome also offers multimedia features, and you can easily control media playback from the toolbar. Of course, there is also integration with Chromecast and Stadia. In terms of security, this browser offers excellent protection to its users. You can always run a quick security check to make sure your browser is not compromised. Chrome also has a safe browsing feature that protects you from unsafe websites and downloads. You can customize this feature, but keep in mind that some settings require you to send your browsing data to Google for analysis. The browser also has a built-in ad blocker, but it is not enabled by default and only blocks intrusive or misleading ads. However, this feature is deep in the settings, so you have to click for it a few times. Chrome and Avast Secure Browser have many features in common as they are both based on Chromium, but Avast offers better security features and a faster, easier to use ad blocker.

Safety equation

Google Chrome is already a secure web browser, but Avast Secure Browser manages to enhance your security with some unique features. Adblock’s built-in blocking is a great addition, as you can change the settings, and its enabled strict blocking mode blocks even the most difficult ads. Chrome’s ad blocking feature, on the other hand, is primitive and hidden in the settings. Therefore, it is likely that users will never find or use it. Avast Secure Browser has all security and privacy features right in the toolbar. With a simple click you can activate them all in a few moments. Both browsers are secure because they use the same engine, but if we had to choose, we would go for Avast Secure Browser because it has better privacy settings and a solid ad blocker.

Power

During our tests, we did not encounter any problems with Avast Secure Browser. We tested the browser with five tabs open and an HD video buffered in the background. We reached about 75% CPU utilization and 424MB RAM on a low-end PC. At rest on the home page, we were using about 1.5% of the processor and about 160 MB of RAM. We repeated the same test in Chrome, with five tabs and a high-definition video buffered in the background, and got up to 85% CPU usage and 414 MB of RAM. Chrome consumed almost no CPU and up to 100 MB of RAM when not active on the home page. Since both browsers run on the same engine, we weren’t surprised to discover that they use about the same amount of resources. Note that Avast uses a bit more memory than Chrome in some cases, but this is not serious. We didn’t notice any slowdowns or other problems with either browser. In terms of performance, we can say that they are about the same, with Chrome sometimes using slightly less memory.

Is AVG secure browser better than Chrome?

With a new version of Google Chrome out for Android, Google has pulled out all of the stops to try and keep users on the old version. But is Google’s plan enough to keep users from upgrading? One of the main reasons people like Chrome is the fact that it allows for unlimited tabs. The AVAST secure browser does not have this ability by default, and you must use the browser’s built-in settings to enable it. If you use Chrome for important things, like online banking, you can be sure that both browsers have the same level of security, but it is wise to remember that the AVAST secure browser lacks some of the features offered by Chrome. If you are a long time Chrome user, you would have noticed that over time Chrome’s security has not been as tight as it used to be a couple of years back. Despite this, most people still use Chrome because it has the largest user base and thus more extensions. The problem is that in order to reach the largest user base, Google had to make their browser free and open source, which meant that anyone can just download the open source version and modify it without Google’s approval or control. This has, in turn, resulted in highly vulnerable browsers which has made it hard for many users to trust Chrome.
