Trying to upgrade from 1909 to 2004 or 20H2?

0xc1900104 Error in framing in windows 10 ?

A similar update bug was observed in an earlier version of 1703. But the main reason may be the size of the system separation.

It should be 500 MB for normal use. If you have completely cleaned out your hard drive and installed a new version of Windows 10, this space will automatically be taken up.

Microsoft Surface Pro 6 users had a 61% failure rate for feature updates from 1909 to 2004. This was also the case after three attempts.

Another reason may be that the download file for the updates is corrupted. Normally, Windows 10 stores update files in the SoftwareDistribution folder.

To fix Windows 10 update error 0xc1900104, you can try the following solutions.

Solution #1 – Rename the Software Distribution folder

Rename the above download folder and restart the update process.

  1. Type cmd in the search box.
  2. Then run the command prompt as administrator.
  3. Disable or block the appropriate services to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder.
  4. Enter the following commands on the command line.

netstop wuauserv
netstop cryptSvc
netstop messserver

  1. You can also temporarily disable these services.
  2. To change the name of the download folder for updates, run the following command.

run C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution.old

  1. This will create a new SoftwareDistribution folder in place of the old one.
  2. Repeat the following commands in the command prompt window.

clean start cryptSvc
clean start bits
clean start msiserver

  1. You can also enable the appropriate services and restart the computer.
  2. Then try a new update.

This should fix the update error code 0xc1900104.

Solution #2 – Try using Windows Updatetroubleshooter.

  1. Press Win + I simultaneously to open Settings > Update and Security.
  2. Go to Troubleshooting.
  3. Click on the Advanced Device Troubleshooting button on the right.
  4. Start the Windows Update troubleshooter.

Sometimes that can solve the problem.

Solution #3 – Change the location of the Windows 10 Update download folder

There is not enough disk space to download updates for Windows 10. Either the system disk is full or the hard disk is damaged for some reason. In this case, you can change the location of the Windows 10 update download folder.

Create another DownloadWindows10Updates folder on another drive with enough space.

The default download location for Windows 10 updates is C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution.

Use solution 1 to rename this folder. On the top-level command line, type the following command.

mklink /j c:windowssoftwaredistribution d:DownloadWindows10Updates

Then restart the Windows Update Service if it is disabled. This can be done from the Services window or by entering the following command.

Starting the wuauserv network

Now check for Windows updates under the following path – Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Solution #4 – Download the Windows 10 manual update

If the automatic update function does not work, you can use the media creation tool. Here is the link where you can download the latest update –

The Upgrade Wizard helps you upgrade to the latest 20H2 version.

Solution#5 – Increase the size of the system partition.

As mentioned earlier, this error is caused by the small size of the system partition. After the last update, 500 MB free disk space is required. If it’s too low, you need to increase the space.

You can use the Disk Management Tool to reduce the volume of another partition on the same hard drive. Then add this space to the system partition. Sometimes the C: drive becomes very small. You need to expand this section.

If there is unused space next to the C: partition, it can be expanded. Use any partition management program for this purpose. Sometimes this is not possible with Windows 10 system tools.
