The reader’s question:
Hi Wally, recently a friend (who helped me fix my computer) showed me an error that often appeared on my laptop. The event display shows the Dcom 10016 fault. There were several, and it seemed to be a problem. The computer works fine, but I wondered what the problem was and if I should do something about it. Thank you so much! – Phil D., Canada

Before solving a computer problem, I always recommend scanning and correcting the underlying problems that affect the health and performance of your PC:

  • Step 1 : Download the PC repair and optimization program (WinThruster for Win 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and 2000 – Microsoft Gold Certified).
  • Step 2 : Click the Start scan button to detect problems in the Windows registry that may cause problems with the PC.
  • Step 3 : Click the Restore All button to solve all problems.

Setting up automatic weekly (or daily) scanners will help you avoid system problems and get your PC up and running quickly and smoothly.

Wally’s answer: The DCOM 10016 error occurs in almost all versions of Windows. This deficiency is benign, which means it’s quite harmless. In most cases, you won’t even realize what happened.

Problem

The DCOM 10016 error usually occurs when a program tries to use DCOM, but does not have permission to do so. It’s innocent enough.

You wouldn’t even know this if you weren’t looking in the Windows Event Viewer.

Nevertheless, it is preferable to maintain the computer so that it does not produce errors.

Solution

With this in mind, here is an easy way to correct the DCOM 10016 error and another, slightly longer solution.

What is DistributedCOM or DCOM?

DistributedCOM or DCOM stands for Distributed Component Object Model. COM is a set of Microsoft concepts and programming interfaces in which client software objects can request services from server software objects. D stands for Distributed, which means that the computer can access data from servers on the network.

This function is used by every program when it tries to access a remote server.

Using the Windows registry to fix DCOM 10016 Error

It’s very simple. You can fix the register in 5 minutes.

Open regedit by typing regedit in the RUN dialog box and pressing Enter.

Before proceeding, I recommend backing up the registry, just in case.

To save the current registry, click File > Export > type a name and select a location > press Enter to save the registry to a safe location.

Navigate in the registry editor to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESFTWAREMicrosoftOle
(Copy and paste this address into the Register Editor for fast navigation)

Now remove these four registry keys:

  1. DefaultAccessPermission
  2. DefaultLaunchPermission
  3. Restriction of access to machines
  4. MachineLaunchRestriction

When you’re done, restart your computer and you won’t see the DCOM 10016 error again.

Is your PC in good health?

I always advise my readers to regularly use a reliable registry cleaner and optimizer such as WinThruster or CCleaner. Many of the problems that arise can be attributed to a corrupt and inflated register.

Have fun doing the math).
